The COVID-19 Immunity Task Force (CITF) Secretariat and the School of Population and Global Health (SPGH) are hiring a Research Assistant to support SARS-CoV-2 sero-surveillance research initiatives. The Research Assistant will initially contribute to project development underway through the CITF linked to Hema-Net and they will transition to work arising out of the SPGH as of April 2024. We are looking for an individual with a public health background and demonstrated health sciences research experience, ideally with an emphasis on serological testing and data monitoring. We value creativity, problem-solving, organization, and collaboration.
Position Summary:
- Conduct literature reviews, liaise with partners, and recommend practices for serosurveillance projects.
- Support scientific planning meetings. Prepare minutes and document next steps for follow ups.
- Contribute to the preparation of research protocols, grant applications and manuscripts for publication.
- Develop informative and visually appealing graphics and presentations for scientific meetings, seminars, workshops for various public and academic audiences.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health or a related area of study.
- Experience analysing clinical or epidemiologic data required, with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience, ideally in clinical research settings.
- Experience in statistical analysis and applied statistical methods (e.g. R)
- Excellent knowledge of immunes sciences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-directed, organized and able to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Excellent analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Senior Databank Manager
The Data Management and Analysis team of the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force (CITF) Secretariat is hiring a full-time Senior Databank Manager. The CITF Secretariat is housed at the McGill University Faculty of Medicine’s School for Population and Global Health. The mandate of the CITF is to support and synthesize Canadian research on immunity to SARS-CoV-2.
The successful applicant will manage a team of research assistants and research associates, and work with scientific advisors and Principal Investigators of CITF funded studies, with a focus on centralizing, managing, harmonizing, and sharing data.
We are looking for an individual with a relevant background in epidemiology, biostatistics, biomedical informatics, or a closely related discipline with demonstrated experience in data management along with quantitative analytic and problem-solving skills. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the work of research assistants and research associates with specialized data management and analytics skills.
- Implement and update governance processes related to data transfer and data access. Document and coordinate data management activities with other parts of the CITF Secretariat.
- Lead efforts to maintain descriptions and documentation of core data elements.
- Manage relationships with a system administrator for maintenance of CITF data and web resources.
- Support researchers in using data models, tools and policies for data transfer developed by the CITF.
- Manage the relationship with a data harmonization vendor
- Oversee harmonization of submitted data to the CITF data model, and lead any efforts to integrate data harmonization within the CITF Secretariat
- Oversee the management of interactions with external groups accessing CITF web resources (e.g., SeroTracker).
- Oversee access to data by authorized users for data analysis, including extraction and preparation of data sets.
- Lead on any further refinements to strategy for data collection and management of CITF funded studies.
- Provide senior-level advice that helps establish guidelines and maintains data security and participant confidentiality.
- Identify and resolve conceptual problems in design of the CITF databank.
- Contribute to scientific content of research grant applications
- Represent the CITF data team and make presentations at internal and external meetings and/or conferences.
Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities
- Master’s or doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or biomedical informatics with experience in the management and statistical analysis of clinical or epidemiologic data (PhD with 5+ years work experience preferred).
- Alternatively, a professional health sciences degree (MD, DD) with relevant advanced training in biostatistics, epidemiology, or biomedical informatics and experience with data management and 5+ years experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience, ideally in health research settings.
- Several years of experience with database design and quality assurance, ideally with epidemiological data
- Deep knowledge of applied statistical methodologies.
- Self-directed, organized and able to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Superior analytical, planning, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and a good command of French.
- Effective communicator: able to explain methodology and consequences of decisions in lay terms.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary setting.
